Manilkara bidentata is a species of Manilkara native to a large area of northern South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Common names include bulletwood, balatá, ausubo, massaranduba, and “cow-tree”.

BALAU
Timber

Dipterocarpaceae is Hard, heavy and very dense with high bending and crushing strengths. The wood is moderately difficult to work with machines as the interlocked grains and toughness has a blunting effect on tools.

Pine

treated pine is a fairly soft timber. However it is still a very popular choice of timber for decking in South Africa, as it is very affordable. Even though it’s cheaper and not quite as tough, it can still last for over 25 years when maintained correctly.
